Today is the Birthday of Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. On this day, the organizers of the Cultural Forum want to thank Mikhail Borisovich for the invaluable contribution to the development of the Russian and the world culture. Modern Hermitage that is managed by Mikhail for more than 20 years cannot be imagined without its talented director. Forum organizers wish Mikhail Piotrovsky happiness, health, and that his passion for art and education would never fade.

At the IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum Mikhail Piotrovsky will head the section "Museums and exhibition projects." Under his guidance, participants will talk about the conservation of works of art during the war years, the work with the museum archives and even reveal some of the secrets of creating the new complex of the Hermitage museum - the Museum of Heraldry. In addition on 15th of December Mikhail Khodorkovsky will be the moderator of one of the most vivid discussions of the Forum - "artistic investigation" on the theme "Why do we need art?", that will be held in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the international edition The Art Newspaper.

Doctor of History, historian and orientalist Mikhail Piotrovsky heads the State Hermitage since 1992. He also directs the Faculty of Oriental Studies of St. Petersburg State University and the Union of Museums of Russia, is a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the Advisory Group of the Council of Europe's exhibition activities and commissions of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. Piotrovsky has many awards and memorials, including the Order "For Services to the Fatherland» the IV and III degrees.
