"Great Pskov," Dormition Cathedral and the Trinity Church Sviyazhska may be included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage

 

At the 41st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2017 will be discussed the issue of inclusion of Russian architectural sites in the List of Cultural Heritage, said Deputy Minister of Culture of the State Protection of Cultural Heritage Vladimir Tsvetnov. At the IV St. Petersburg Cultural Forum, he gave a presentation on the activities of the Ministry of Culture at the plenary session “The 70th anniversary of UNESCO. The 25 anniversary of including the Russian sites in UNESCO World Heritage list. Past. Present. Future”.

 

Tsvetnov said that during cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan and the administration of the Pskov region in 2015 produced two regulatory dossiers on the Dormition Cathedral and Sviyazhsk Trinity Church, as well as "Great Pskov." Deputy Minister of Culture of the State Protection of Cultural Heritage also noted that at the moment carried out additional selection of objects from the regions; those objects are also able to get the nomination on the UNESCO list.

 

Deputy Minister of Culture of the State Protection of Cultural Heritage said that according to results of examinations at the present time 43 regions of the Russian Federation presented their versions of sites that, in their view, deserve inclusion in the List of World Cultural Heritage. Out of these, 32 are supported at the ministerial level, 5 recommended to finalize their proposals and 6 - to reconsider.

 

We remind that now list of UNESCO World Heritage features more than 20 objects from Russia. Six of them are recognized as a masterpieces of human genius, and the 10 sites included on natural criteria. Four of them are considered "natural phenomena of exceptional beauty and aesthetic importance". Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments, architectural ensemble of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square, as well as Kizhi churchyard are the first Russian architectural objects awarded with special protection of the UN Committee.
