Yesterday, December 16, within the film programme of IV St.Petersburg international cultural forum the opening of exibition “The arrival of cinema in Russia” was held at the Faberge Museum. It has become the starting point in a series of events, prepared for the incoming Year of Russian Cinema.
The exhibition was visited by Dutch film director and screenwriter Jos Stelling, Latvian and Soviet historian, theorist of cinema Yuri Tsivyan, Chief of UNESCO Section of Communication and Information Sector Boyan Radoikov. Moderators of the meeting were Constantine Shavlovsky and Aleksandra Ahmadschina.
The museum space has united films of the Lumiere brothers (famous coronation of Nicholas II), the first few feature films, kinolubki of Eugene Bauer, masterpieces of mounting craftsmanship by Sergei Eisenstein, as well as valuable posters, playbills and layout sheets. A miniature copy of the purple living scenery of Alexandra Feodorovna in the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoye Selo from Eisenstein's film "October" was presented at the interactive exhibition-installation for the first time.
