Andrey Moguchy, the artistic director of Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre, on his birthday, told journalists about the work of the "Theatre” section of the IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.

Today, November 23, there was a press conference of the section "Theatre” of the IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. In 2015, the leadership of the section "Theatre" was accepted by the artistic director of Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre, Andrey Moguchy. The section "Theatre" will feature more than 20 speakers, 80 prominent Russian and foreign theatrical community and government agencies at different levels and in general activities of business, educational and social character will be visited by no less than 3,500 people. The press conference was attended by Andrey Moguchy, the head of the section "Theatre", the artistic director of Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre, Valery Fokin, Artistic Director of the Alexandrinsky Theatre named after A. Pushkin and Alexander Chepurov, rector of the Russian State Institute of Scenic Arts.

 

"Today, when the world is split apart, when "the whole world - theatre" can any day become a theatre of war - more important than ever is to be together, to learn how not to lose friends, to learn the art of dialogue over and over again, no matter how different were our points of view. International Cultural Forum was created as a platform for an open dialogue, free debate on culture, as a place to talk about the most pressing issues of modern art. It is this area to be a space for the development of professional criteria, which can be relied on only in moments of loss of balance. It’s not the time to divide the world into friends and foes, black and white - the time to make efforts to preserve the threads that bound us all these years,"- said at a press conference Andrey Moguchy.

 

 

IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum held under the sign of the 70th anniversary of UNESCO, this event in the official program of the section "Theatre" is devoted to the symposium "The theatrical heritage: preservation, reconstruction and reinterpretation of stage texts." In the center of the dialogue of leading practitioners and theorists of the theatre is the role and place of the world repertoire of stage texts in contemporary theatre process. Moderators of the symposium - Artistic Director of the Alexandrinsky Theatre Valery Fokin and rector of the Russian State Institute of Scenic Arts Alexander Chepurov.

 

To continue discussion of the symposium, participants will be able after the shows of Valery Fokin, "The Government Inspector" (December 14) and "Masquerade. Memories of the Future "(15 December) at the Alexandrinsky Theatre.

 

One of the most important events of the Forum will be a round table on "Author's Theatre. The interpretation of classical texts." Moderators of the round table discussion are the artistic director of Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre Andrey Moguchy and the artistic director of the Alexandrinsky Theatre Valery Fokin. The dialogue will bring together leading experts of contemporary theatre, leaders of theatre movement from Russia, Italy, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and other countries. Lev Dodin, Anatoli Vasiliev, Luca de Fusco, Yury Solomin, Joseph Raihelgauz Boris Yukhananov, Dmitry Krymov, Kirill Serebrennikov, Andrey Zholdak, Tiit Oyaoso Yang klyatyh, Audronis Lyugai, Andras Kozma and many others have already confirmed their participation. Panelists will raise the most acute, widely discussed in the international theatre community topics, including the problem of interaction between art and society, the relationship of classic and contemporary, the interpretation of the classics, issues of expert evaluation of works of art, creative freedom and social responsibility of the artist and much more.

 

Of particular interest is the section of this year program, the round table "The social theatre: history, international experience, perspectives of development". The world leaders of theatre art from different countries will come to discuss present and future of social theatre. One of the most important areas of the section will be the discussion on the research potential of the theatrical art in direct assistance to the people of different segments of society, frequently not adapted to the rapid rhythms of the modern world. On the training stage Bolshoi Drama Theatre will be held a master class "Theatre of the Oppressed, Augusto Boal: Theory and Practice" (master class by Adrian Jackson). As an example of the social theatre premiere of inclusive play "The Language of Birds" (director - Boris Pavlovich) will be presented on the lesser stage of Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre, students of "Anton is right here" centre (people with autism spectrum disorders) will perform along with professional theatre artists.

 

From 13 to 16 December the IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum will host the festival "Golden Mask". In the playbill of the festival - performances, the laureates and nominees of the Russian National Theatre Award "Golden Mask" 13 December at the Alexandrinsky Theatre will take place "Evening of one-act ballets" (Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Yekaterinburg), 14 and 15 December at the Youth Theatre on Fontanka - play "The Suicide" Studio of Theatrical Art, directed by Sergey Zhenovach.

 

During the forum on December 14 main stage Bolshoi Drama Theatre will held the premiere of "War and Peace by Tolstoy", directed by Victor Ryzhakov.

 

From 14 to 16 December 2015 St. Petersburg will host IV St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. The forum was founded in 2012 as a unique platform for international meetings, free dialogue and exchange of experience between experts in the field of culture and cultural policy. Today the Forum includes 12 sections devoted to various aspects of culture and art. In 2013, the program of the Forum included the theatre section, headed by artistic director of Malyy Drama Theatre Lev Dodin, 2014 - Artistic Director of the Alexandrinsky Theatre Valery Fokin.
